Rain threat as WI seeks to win the ODI series

For the first time in a well-run series, the Irish and West Indians found rust in their game. The two West Indies' fine performances - by Shamarh Brooks, who missed a century by seven runs, and captain Kieron Pollard - hid the great fact that their batting was not easy.

The resumption of international home cricket highlights the West Indies' weakness in a thrilling home run in a 24-run victory at Sabina Park in Kingston. This is a matter they will look to resolve when they return to the second game of the ODI series on Tuesday (January 11).

The West Indies, with all their batting power, talent and depth, were unable to find their 50-over template and the art of moving its innings for long. The move by the Irish pacer players to harass West Indies' top strikers is yet to play again. Opener Justin Greaves, who started out as a disappointment, could get another chance to shine but the challenge will be a steep climb for the 27-year-old.

It would be a lot of work for Ireland to survive in a three-match series. Unlike the uninitiated, they were able to start slowly, but they let the pressure go from their grip. West Indian swimmers, especially Romario Shepherd, deserve a lot of credit for using the conditions. With the farthest and best plan, the West Indies can hope to grow well as the series progresses.

When: Tuesday, January 11 at 9:30 AM Local Time (8:00 PM IST)

Where: Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica

What to Expect: Extreme thunderstorms are expected throughout the day. So a lot of play-stop-play game is expected, i.e. if the weather forecast allows the game to start on time.

Group News:

West Indies: With the Playing XI just getting a chance to continue, there is no reason to exclude anyone from the first games.

Probable XI: Shai Hope (wk), Justin Greaves, Nicholas Pooran, Shamarh Brooks, Kieron Pollard (c), Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Odeon Smith, Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein

Ireland: Andy McBrine was hit in the head and had to be replaced. The nature of his injury is unknown, but outside of Ireland it looks good to keep the XI

Probable XI: William Porterfield, Andrew Balbirnie (c), Harry Tector, Gareth Delany, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Andy McBrine, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Mark Adair, Craig Young, Joshua Little

What they say:

"Toss will play a big role throughout the series. It's very humid, Ireland has used the conditions very well. We need to be aware of that and we need to be strong and find ways to get around the strike" - Kieron Pollard after winning the West Indies.
