Former West Indies player Ottis Gibson is set to become the second black coach in regional cricket history, after being appointed to hold the Yorkshire contract for a three-year contract, starting in late February.

Gibson, who won the T20 World Cup as the head coach of the West Indies in 2012, played a similar role in South Africa, and also served as a swing coach in England and Bangladesh. Prior to that, he enjoyed the important circuit work of Durham, Glamorgan and Leicestershire, and once took ten wickets in Durham innings against Hampshire in 2007.

Gibson will report to the interim executive director of Yorkshire Cricket, Darren Gough, and will be responsible for the performance and management of the first team, supported by two assistant coaches who will soon be appointed.

The appointment comes as Yorkshire seeks to restore their dignity following Azeem Rafiq's allegations of racism at the club. After Rafiq's heartwarming testimony before a parliamentary select committee in November, Yorkshire was cleared of its staff and medical staff, and 16 were fired, including Andrew Gale, a former head coach, and Martyn Moxon, a cricket director.

Gibson will join the club when his contract with Multan Sultan expires in the Pakistan Super League next month.
