Chris Morris retires from cricket
South African athlete Chris Morris has announced his retirement from the sport. Announcing the decision on Social Media, the 34-year-old said he had accepted the position of coach of the Titans home team.
"Thank you to all who participated in my journey whether it was big or small ... it was a fun trip !," a caption posted on her Instagram page.
In 69 games for the Proteas in all three races, Morris got 94 wickets. A talented batsman in the lower division, he could not translate his talent to a major contribution to the batting, which included 774 runs overseas.
Morris started playing cricket late, playing his first Class Class game in the North West at the age of 22 in 2009. In 2011/12, however, he was proving himself to be the best swimmer. During that time, he became the wrestler who won the most wickets in the 21-man T20 home tournament.
He resigned from the late Champions League in the 2012 season, when his Lions team reached the final. That translated into the first T20I game later in the year and a call-up to the 2013 Champions Trophy team.
During the 2013 IPL auction, Morris was bought by Chennai Super Kings for USD 650,000. The tournament has always been kind to him and his rotation skills earned him some great lead days during IPL 2016 (Delhi Daredevils) and IPL 2020 (Royal Challengers Bangalore). At the IPL 2021 auction, Morris was signed by the Rajasthan Royals with INR 16.25 crores - the largest signing in the history of the tournament at the auction table.
